XBOX UX/UI Design Work
We identified key areas of the console that could be used to hide or hint at a secret, and while we moved away from the “secret attic” approach, (shown left,) this exploration actually lead to two separate approaches.
Dual (and triple) slot takeovers
A way to highlight new major game releases at the cost of ad or info space, but without pulling the player out of their menu or requiring any navigation. Flight Simulator was the first game to get this treatment.
Launch Notifications
The now famous (or infamous) messages for events or games that appear sometimes when you start up your Xbox.
QRcode page redesign
Updating these pages with additional functionality and look, as they were originally a black screen with a single “done” button and a small graphic, to something more interesting, with the ability to open directly into a web browser if for whatever reason the QR code fails. The Xenon logo in the middle of the QRcode was just an added bonus.
WEBSITE SPECIFIC explorations
Part of the redesign explorations also included custom Game Pass routes for major Xbox games that were a part of the library, which included new home page screens, new loading screens, and even the idea of “filling out your preferences” while loading.
